In the realm of music, composer Marjorie de Muynck, (pronounced de Monk), proposed that Om, (also spelled Ohm), is our collective musical center, and may be the fundamental tone from which ancient and contemporary musical scales and their intervallic systems evolved.

Born into a musical family, Marjorie de Muynck’s interest in tuning forks, sound and vibration was awakened at an early age. She first held a tuning fork in 1963 to tune her guitar, and then began applying the sound vibration to her own body-a sign of things to come. She was re-introduced to healing with tuning forks in 1981 from the piano player in her band after suffering from migraine headaches. Her clinical interest in Sound Healing and tuning forks grew and coalesced in 1995 when she co-founded the Kairo’s Institute of Sound Healing; co-developed the Acutonics® sound healing system and co-authored the textbook, There’s No Place Like Ohm: Sound Healing, Oriental Medicine and the Cosmic Mysteries. Marjorie co-developed a healing treatment called Harmonic Attunement®, which incorporates the use of cosmically tuned symphonic gongs, tuning forks, didgeridoos, rattles, Tibetan bowls, and bells. Marjorie de Muynck also studied Huichol Shamanism with Brant Secunda and was very interested in the indigenous use of sound for healing.

In 2000 Marjorie began a series of pioneering musical compositions in the key of Ohm: There’s No Place Like Ohm Volumes 1 & Volume 2 , In the Key of Earth and Vibrational Healing Music. Each of these Sound Healing recordings are composed in what has become Marjorie’s signature tuning of Ohm.

Marjorie’s eclectic mix of experience as a musician, composer, recording artist, healing arts practitioner, and educator, combined with her scientific understanding of vibration and sound, led her to create Ohm Therapeutics™ Sound Healing, a comprehensive vibrational healing system which combines the application of Ohm Tuning Forks, Crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, and other sound healing tools with music composed in the healing frequency of Ohm. Why ohm?

Aligning ourselves with the Earth is one of the most important things we can do at this time in our history. By connecting with the elements and observing the natural rhythms and cycles of the Earth, we can find homeostasis, balance, and grounding. Homeostasis is the balanced environment of our body and its automatic tendency to maintain this internal stability in the presence of external stimuli. Not an easy task in this fast-paced world! Nonetheless, a balanced environment is key to the healing process and to our overall well-being. Listening to the ohm tone and feeling its vibration directed on the body through music, tuning forks, or bowls is an ideal way to find that calm center, or still point, where healing begins. After working with numerous cosmic and diatonic frequencies over the past 30 years, my research now is intensively focused on the ohm frequency. In my clinical experience, I find ohm to be incredibly therapeutic and have chosen it as the fundamental tone in my healing practices.

In the realm of sound healing, Marjorie was often asked, “Why ohm?” Her answer was really quite simple: Ohm is our home tone, our spiritual center, and a place of safety. It is a temporary refuge from the intensity of the world.

She goes on to say: “Ohm also is spelled om and aum, however I spell ohm with an “h.” Traditionally the “o” represents birth and the “m” represents death. By adding the “h,” the intention is to add the element of breath – to infuse this ancient word, mantra, and frequency with added healing potential for use in therapeutic applications and settings. Ohm is an ancient and sacred tone that is universally recognized, scientifically based, and spiritually upheld. Its roots are in a natural cycle, based on the elliptical orbit of the Earth as it travels around the sun through four seasons, which explains why I consider ohm to be our musical center of gravity. Our body in its natural intelligence can assimilate ohm and all its overtones and utilize these healing properties on a vibratory level.”
